Education Programs

As stated in our Mission Statement, education is one of the three primary goals of the Cross Village Rug Works.

This includes both education and training for our Artisans and for the community as a whole. The current trend in most homes today of purchasing what is needed rather than making it has created a gap in the knowledge base of our children. Many do not know of the correlations between their natural surroundings and the products they use every day, from the food they eat to the clothing they wear. CVRW has created a series of learning activities that will help accentuate these connections and the value of our natural surroundings for children, which can be presented in children’s workshops in the CVRW building as well as in a variety of venues from 4-H groups to schools off-campus.

The CVRW also hosts adult workshops with a variety of fiber-based topics.

In January 2009, North Central Michigan College held a semester long, college accredited dye-intensive class attended by four CVRW Apprentice Artisans. The class created a permanent dye library for CVRW , including local natural dyes as well as the non-toxic, eco-friendly acid based dyes used to color our yarn and fleece.
